Affirmative Action Office

The Affirmative Action office works with departments across campus to achieve the university’s Affirmative Action goals.

Vice Chancellor for Anti-Racism, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

The Office of Vice Chancellor for Anti-Racism, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion works across campus to provide consultation and training on cultural and professional competency, inclusion and diversity in the classroom.

Black Resource Center

The Black Resource Center, a unit of The Dean of Students, exists to foster students' educational experiences, encourage unity within the Black community, enhance the exploration of cultural and personal identities, and promote leadership and inclusive excellence.

Diversity Council

The Chancellor’s Diversity Council has been formed to examine what factors may be hindering SIU’s efforts to increase diversity and recommend a plan to eliminate existing barriers. The Council has the responsibility to monitor the plan for effectiveness and annually measure progress across the campus toward established goals.

Hispanic/Latino Resource Center

The Hispanic/Latino Resource Center (HLRC,) a unit of The Dean of Students, promotes academic success within the SIU Latino community by sharing resources and spearheading programs that promote cultural affirmation, persistence, and community engagement. 

LGBTQ Resource Center

The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, Queer (LGBTQ) Resource Center, a unit of The Dean of Students, serves as a centrally located, safe campus space that provides educational outreach, referral information and advocacy services, which will add to an inclusive and diverse environment for LGBTQ individuals at SIU.

Office of Equity and Compliance

The Office of Equity and Compliance provides training, conducts investigations, and ensures compliance with federal laws related to sexual violence, Title IX and discrimination.

Queens Discussion Group

The Queens Discussion group provides a positive environment for African American women on campus to discuss topics for improvement of communication networks and constructive interaction between African American women. Queens is a program that will give women the opportunity to progress with topics to embody respect and become knowledgeable of what it means to be personified as a woman.

Safe Zone Training

Safe Zone training sessions educate the SIU Carbondale community about LGBTQ issues. Participation as an ally in the SIU Safe Zone program helps to create a campus that is inclusive and affirming.

Sisters Interacting Successfully

Sisters Interacting Successfully envisions a culture of unity for African American women that will help them develop positive social skills and increase self-worth while embodying the spirit of “Lifting as We Climb.”

Student Multicultural Resource Center

The Student Multicultural Resource Center serves as a catalyst for inclusion, diversity and innovation. It is home to the Black Resource Center, the Hispanic/Latino Resource Center, the LGBTQ Resource Center, and the Women’s Resource Center.
