Crime Report Form

If you have witnessed an SIU campus incident or crime, you can complete a Crime Report Form. This form is not a police report and will not generate a police report or police investigation. The report is submitted to the Office of Diversity and Equity for follow-up. To file a police report call the SIU Police at (618) 453-3771.

Discrimination or Harassment

Students who believe that they have been subject to discrimination or harassment, including sexual harassment, should contact the Office of Diversity and Equity located in Davies Hall, Room 150, (618) 453-4807.  Additional information related to this office and the services provided may be found on their website.

Emergency Alert Signup Instructions

SIU sends emergency alerts to students in the event of campus closures, weather hazards, or other emergency situations. To make sure that you are signed up for these alerts, follow the signup tutorial.

Emergency Call Boxes

Emergency assistance is only a push of a button away.  Emergency call boxes are labeled "Emergency" and are mounted on red poles topped with blue strobe lights across campus.

Emergency Preparedness

Are you prepared? SIU is. Learn how the university is prepared for emergency situations.

Emergency Response Checklist

While we hope you won’t ever have to deal with an emergency situation, we have compiled emergency response checklists in the event of severe weather, an active shooter, and other emergencies. We encourage you to review these checklists and know what to do in these situations.

Emegency Website

SIU maintains an Emergency Website which includes information on signing up for emergency alerts, who to contact during an emergency, and emergency response checklists.

Facility Issues

If there is a maintenance or janitorial problem at one of our SIU facilities, you are encouraged to contact the Facilities Operations Center at (618) 453-3621 or foc1@pso.siu.edu.

File a Complaint

Students filing complaints for sexual assault, dating violence, domestic violence, stalking, sexual harassment, and/or discrimination should report it to the Office of Diversity and Equity.  For all other complaints against other students, report to Student Rights and Responsibilities.

Missing Campus Student or Resident

If anyone from the University community (student, employee or other individual) has reason to believe that a student has been missing for at least 24 hours, that person should immediately notify the Department of Public Safety at (618) 453-3771.

Night Safety Transit

Night Safety Transit service is provided by Saluki Express and the Student Center. It provides a safe (and free) means of transportation for SIU students both on and off campus. You can request a ride by downloading the TransLoc Mobile app or call for a ride at (618) 715-0770.

Safe Walk App

The Department of Public Safety has developed a mobile app that pairs students, faculty, and staff walking to various campus locations with an escort. The SIU Safe Walk app is available free through your app store. When a walk is requested, a confirmation email will be sent from the DPS dispatcher on duty. Saluki Patrol officers will meet the person requesting the walk at the designated start location and time.

Saluki Express

The Saluki Express mass transit system is SIU’s answer to parking and traffic problems. SIU Carbondale students, faculty, and staff, as well as the Carbondale community, are encouraged to get on board. Relax and be transported to work, school, or popular destinations such as the University Mall, Illinois Avenue, and Murdale Shopping Center.
